Matthew Thomas, baritone, a graduate of Darien High School is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in classical voice from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music.
During Matthew’s high school career he was a member and featured soloist in many of the school’s auditioned vocal groups including the DHS Concert Choir, Nutmeg Express, as well as the Tudor Singers with whom he traveled to Italy in 2000 to perform in numerous venues from Milan to Rome. Matthew has also appeared on stage as part of the high school’s theater group, Theater 308, with staring roles in Grease, Oliver, and Pippin before his graduation in 2001.
After high school he went on to St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, as a pre-med student with a double major in Biology and Psychology. Deciding that music was his true passion, Matthew began voice lessons with Beverly Lambert in 2002. Soon after he auditioned and was accepted into Manhattan School of Music in Manhattan. Since being accepted he studied with Ashley Putnam, and is now a student of Maitland Peters.
Matthew now sings regularly for St. Thomas More Church in Darien as a cantor and section leader of the Adult Choir. Recently Matthew has performed in a production of La Boheme in Westport, Connecticut, as well as taking on the lead role of Nathan Benedict in Revolution! 1777, an original production composed by Cheryl Kemeny of the Crystal Theatre in Norwalk.
