St. Thomas More    Rev. Paul G. Murphy, Pastor

Father Murphy became the third Pastor of Saint Thomas More Church on March 1, 2011.

Father Murphy came to us from Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Sherman, Connecticut, where he was Administrator and Pastor for two and a half years. Prior to that, he was the Parochial Vicar at Saint Mary Roman Catholic Parish in Ridgefield, Connecticut.

Paul Murphy was born in 1958 in Boston, Massachusetts. His family lived in Saint Patrick Parish in Stoneham. He graduated from Stoneham High School in 1976 and earned a B.S. degree in biology in 1980 from Fairfield University. He received a master's degree in Health Science from Northeastern University in Boston in 1983. Before studying for the priesthood, he was sales and marketing manager for Marion Merrell Dow, Inc., in New York.

In 1989, he entered Saint John Fisher Seminary Residence and earned an S.T.B. degree from Gregorian University in Rome in 1993. He was ordained to the diaconate at Saint Peter's Basilica in Vatican City in December 1993 by William Wakefield Cardinal Baum.

Father Murphy was ordained a priest in July 1994 by Bishop Edward M. Egan at Saint Augustine Cathedral in Bridgeport. He began his priestly ministry at Saint Joseph Parish in Shelton where he served for seven years as parochial vicar. In addition to serving as parochial vicar in a number of parishes in the Diocese of Bridgeport, Father Murphy worked as assistant to the chancellor for special projects and has served as a member of the Bioethics Committees of the Diocese and Saint Vincent's Medical Center.
